New Beginnings for Tekisha C.

Tekisha C. will soon become a homeowner in the mixed-income community of Lochlyn Hill.

Tekisha is eagerly counting down the days until she and her two youngest children can move into their forever home. She can’t wait to paint the walls any color that she desires and bring a pet into the family—ideally a teacup poodle.

“It’s a new start for me, Tekisha says. “New happiness, new beginnings, new goals.”

Although the process has not always been easy, Tekisha says she has made great memories along the way, like working alongside her son, Romir, on a Habitat construction site as part of her sweat equity hours. She’s also grateful to the many community volunteers who have come out to support her.

“I’m glad we have Habitat for people like me to be able to own a home one day,” Tekisha says.
