The Habitat Store FAQ

I’m having trouble finding the Habitat Store—where are you located?

We have lots of Habitat offices, but the store is located at 1221 Harris Street, Charlottesville, VA 22903. Our sign can be a little hard to spot because of the trees, and the driveway can sneak up on you! We’re located just to the left of the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank and International Imports. Keep an eye out as you approach—you’ll see us tucked just off the main road.

Can everyone shop at the Habitat Store?

Yes! The Habitat Store is open to the public—everyone is welcome to browse and shop.

Can you deliver purchased items?

While we don’t deliver purchased items ourselves, we’re happy to provide a list of local drivers and delivery companies — from single-truck drivers to professional, licensed movers.

How often do new items arrive?

New treasures are coming in all the time—literally every day we’re open! That means there’s always something new to spot, hunt for, and take home. Stop by often—you never know what gems you might find!

Can I place an order online or reserve items?

All purchases must be made in-store, as we don’t offer online ordering. However, we’re happy to hold items for you after payment if you need time to schedule a pick-up. Just let us know, and we’ll make sure your purchase is set aside until you can collect it.

Do you offer gift cards?

Yes! Gift cards are available for purchase in-store.

How do your prices, discounts, and sales work?

Since every item is a donation supporting our affiliate, we work to get the most value from each sale to help fund Habitat homes. While we don’t negotiate prices, many items feature colored tags that indicate discounts. Every 2–4 weeks, discounted items may decrease in price even further, and we hold a larger storewide sale about once a month. Items may also drop in price the longer they’re on the floor—so if you’re hoping for a deal, keep an eye out, but remember that other shoppers may snag it first!

What items can I donate?
We accept gently used or new furniture, appliances, home décor, building materials, and garden items—all in good condition. Examples include chairs, tables, cabinets, flooring, doors, windows, appliances, paint, tools, and patio furniture.

Please note: we may decline donations if we don’t have space in our warehouse or if we currently have an influx of a certain type of item.

For a full list of accepted items, restrictions, and requirements, please see our Donation Guidelines.

Are there items you cannot accept?

We cannot accept cribs, baby items or toys, mattresses and box springs, water heaters, small appliances (like coffee makers, toaster ovens, or sewing machines), books, clothes, blankets, pillows, Tupperware, miscellaneous dishes or silverware, blinds or mini blinds, curtains, used light bulbs, old TVs, unframed mirrors or glass, cabinet doors, pianos, or organs.

If you’re unsure about an item, please give us a call at 434-293-6331.

Does the Habitat Store accept donations of mattresses and box springs?

No. Due to health regulations and the need for proper sanitization, we are unable to accept mattresses or box springs.

What happens with the donations?

The Habitat Store accepts donations of appliances, building supplies and furniture. These items are sold at the Habitat Store to the general public and the proceeds benefit Habitat for Humanity of Greater Charlottesville.

Are the donations used in Habitat homes?

No. Donations are sold in the store, and the proceeds are used to purchase brand-new building materials for Charlottesville’s Habitat homes.

Do you offer a tax receipt for my donation?

Yes! All in-kind donations to the Habitat Store are tax-deductible. When you drop off your items or have them picked up, we’ll provide a donation receipt for your records. For tax purposes, donors are responsible for determining the value of their donated items.
