Letter from a Homeowner
August 12, 2021
To my HABITAT partner families.
Hello. My name is Deborah Tyler and I reside in a HABITAT home that was built for me in 2015 in Burnet Commons II.
I am writing this letter because I am a member of the Habitat Homeowner Council and as such, I am afforded the opportunity to be an active participant in HABITAT for Humanity’s desire to improve each homebuyer’s experience in becoming new homeowners.
I realize that with the climate in America today, many are losing hope in the American dream of becoming a homeowner. The COVID pandemic has altered many of our way of life as we attempt to adjust to the new normal.
As this pandemic continues to take on different variants, many people have lost their homes or are in fear of doing so. As the cost of buying a home in the Charlottesville area continues to rise, and affordable housing seems less attainable, I would like to take this opportunity to thank HABITAT FOR HUMANITY for being a light in the darkness to so many of us who had no hope of becoming homeowners without the opportunity to partner with them.
I have been in my home for six years now, and it is still so surreal to me that I am a homeowner. God and Habitat have planted my family in an affordable home where we don’t have to worry about being able to afford the high cost of rentals or live in substandard housing. We are secure.
I would like to encourage each partner family that has been blessed by their partnership experience to dare to dream, and to share your good fortune by telling someone else about your being blessed by a wonderful bunch of people that prove everyday that in spite of what the rest of the world is doing, LOVE LIVES! Thank you HABITAT FOR HUMANITY. Truly, I could not love you more, and I pray that in the future I will be able to give back just a portion of what you have given me and my family.
Sincerely,
Deborah Tyler
