Faith Image This Page lists all of the ways your congregation can join Habitat for Humanity of Greater Charlottesville.

Churches put faith into action to help end poverty housing Habitat for Humanity is about tearing down walls and building bridges. It is about bringing hope and transforming lives. It is about serving God by serving others.

The vision of Habitat is that all people will have a decent place in which to live. Trust in God propels this movement forward and helps bring hope into the lives of homeowners, volunteers - and sometimes even bystanders.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Charlottesville's five year goal is to build 20 Habitat Houses with the Faith Community. Here is how you can help...

Sponsor a Faith Based Group Habitat Home:
The cost of land and materials has skyrocketed in the last five years. Habitat cannot continue its mission of addressing our community's affordable housing crisis without your congregations help! Please consider sponsoring a house or partnering with others.

Full House Sponsorship: $60,000

Half House Sponsorship:
$30,000

Quarter House Sponsorship:
$15,000

Eighth House Sponsorship:
$7,000

Provide Volunteers:

Recruit a group of volunteers, especially retirees, to work on our existing mid-week crews.

Provide A Team of Crew Leaders:

Recruit 3 or 4 people with "handy-man" skills willing to be trained as crew Leaders. They would come out two or three times a year as a group to a site to provide side-by-side supervision with unskilled volunteers.

Provide These Key Volunteer Positions:
Volunteer Coordinators, Family Advocates or Lunch Providers for work crews on weekends and weekdays.

Adopt a Habitat Home:

Many individual churches, denominations, or community neighborhood churches have sponsored their own houses by providing financial and volunteer support to build it. Sending work crews of volunteers is not a necessity. A typical two family townhome takes 24 volunteer Saturdays to build. Some of the many benefits are:

  • Working alongside the future homeowner family, and with other Habitat Partner families, serving together and growing in relationships with persons of other race, class, and faith.

  • Building relationships by experiencing service together with members of one's own congregation and members of other congregations.

  • Joining with other churches in a Circle of Faith that would share with you in the cost and provision of volunteers. Houses have been built by denominational groups, pairs of churches, or gatherings of churches in a neighborhood or district. This is a wonderful and time-tested way to bridge denominational and racial differences. Pulpit and choir "swapping" relationships between churches can grow out of these co-sponsorships.

  • Providing a low-income working family the gift of building and owning their own home; changing their lives forever.

To volunteer for any of these roles, please call (434) 293-9066 or go to our calendar to sign up online.
