Want to sponsor a house?
Churches, businesses and civic organizations can sponsor houses by providing money and volunteers. Right now, a full-sponsorship is $60,000 (or $30,000 for a half-sponsorship, $15,000 for a quarter-sponsorship) and volunteers work for about 9 Saturdays. Habitat matches the fundraising efforts of sponsoring organizations with individual donations to get the approximate $70,000 needed per house for building materials, land and infrastructure. If an organization does not have enough volunteers for this commitment, we have other groups who want an opportunity to work and would be happy to work with the sponsors on the house. Most organizations find that the challenge of building a house brings the group closer together. Individuals also can sponsor houses and Habitat will find the volunteers to build them. If you are looking for a sponsor, check out our list of past sponsors. Please take a moment to visit their website and contact them to discuss your future project.
Matching Gifts
You can double the impact of your contribution to Habitat if your company offers a matching gift program. Habitat supporters should check their employer's matching gift policy before they contribute, and be sure to notify their company, so that Habitat receives the full benefit of your commitment. Please notify your employer that the matching gift should be directed to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Charlottesville (see address and phone number on the contact page). A few employers do not match gifts to local Habitat chapters, but will match gifts to Habitat for Humanity International. If your employer has this policy, both contributions can be directed to Habitat International, but with a designation that they are to be directed for the benefit of the HFHGC. Please let us know when you have made such a contribution to Habitat International so we can follow up to assure that your support is focused locally. The Habitat staff in Charlottesville will be pleased to assist you with your matching gift. |
